REIKI ATTUNEMENT Reiki is not taught in the way other healing techniques are taught. It is transferred to the student from the Reiki Master during a process known as attunement and this process is what makes Reiki unique. It is one of the major differences between Reiki and other methods of healing. Reiki attunements can be powerful spiritual experiences which open the chakras (energy centres) and creates a special link between the student and the Reiki source. The process is guided by the Rei (God consciousness) and is carried out in sacred ceremonies which open the inner healing channels to allow greater quantities of life force energy to flow. This is why the ability 'to heal' can be developed so quickly and yet be permanent. Experiencing the attunement affects each student differently and can be quite emotional for some. After the attunement some students report increased psychic sensitivity and increased intuitive awareness although do not worry if you have none of these, everyone is unique and you are still attuned. A Reiki attunement lasts for life, it does not wear off or wear out, you cannot lose it. Within hours of the first attunement Reiki energy starts to flow through your hands at the thought of healing and begins a cleansing which may affect your physical as well as your mental and emotional bodies. It is best to relax and trust that the Reiki knows what is best as this Divine Energy knows what you need. After the attunements are completed, a 21 day period of cleansing is required. Changes may happen and during this period, a self healing treatment must be carried out daily to allow the balancing of energies to take place. It is also helpful to start a Reiki journal as a record of your thoughts, dreams and experiences
